About Us

Hello! Thanks for stopping by.  Who are we you ask?

We are Scott and Erin, and we live in the very small rural town of Baldwin, Michigan; which is about 90 minutes north of Grand Rapids, 90 minutes south of Traverse City, and 40 minutes to the shore of Lake Michigan – and about an hour away from Manistee, Michigan which is where we keep our boat, Knot Again.  Scott and I have been married for 16 years, and will celebrate being together for 20 years shortly after we start our loop in the fall of 2024.  I grew up and lived my entire life in Arizona; Scott had lived in AZ most of his adult life and grew up in southern California.  We met in Arizona in 2004 and have been inseparable ever since.  We made the decision to give up our life in the heat of AZ in 2009 and moved across country to the blustery cold of Michigan, which is where we have spent the last 15 years.

Scott is an IT guy and is lucky enough to be able to work from home…or anywhere he has a reliable internet connection and cell phone service.  Which will come in quite handy when we start our loop.  He is our Captain, Diesel “Mechanic”, Master Navigator, and all-round jack of all trades.  I swear this guy can do anything he sets his mind to.  Scott is the one with the boat experience, having grown up with boats and owning other, although smaller, boats prior to us meeting.  He is also a Navy Veteran and was a Search and Rescue swimmer and ASW which involved aircraft radar and navigation.

This is Scott and I in Arizona with one of our first “toys”, a Superformance Cobra we had great fun with.

Myself,  I spent the last 30ish years in Human Resources; mostly in the public sector.  I will be fortunate enough to be able to leave my job in the spring of 2024, to allow us to go on this adventure they call the “Great Loop”…more about that later.  Scott has dubbed me the “Admiral”… I believe that is just his way of calling me the bossy one (LOL).  I am also Chief Researcher (or Googler as he calls me), planner (not always a good thing for the Loop), Voyage Documenter, Videographer, Social Media Publicist, and First Mate.

In 2020, Scott and I were knee deep in the middle of an extensive home renovation/restoration/”flip” project and were quite burned out.  And then COVID hit, the whole world shut down, and priorities shifted.  A boat seemed like a good diversion and a way to force us to take some down time from our project and relax – so we said “WHY NOT” and bought our first boat.  It was a 44′ Sea Ray Express Bridge.  We dubbed her “Why KNOT”.  We learned a lot, and learned that we really enjoyed spending time on the boat.

I’m not sure how the idea came to us, probably Scott turned me onto the idea, but we started dreaming about this thing called “The Loop”.  We realized “Why Knot” was not the ideal boat for this adventure, so we decided to sell her at the end of the 2021 boating season and started to casually search for a boat that would check all the boxes for us to do the loop.  You can read more about our current boat HERE.
